Just letting you guys know that I’m doing well here, despite my missing everyone back home. As a civilian, I was searching for structure and motivation in my life, and you bet the military sure did deliver. But not to worry. That hipster piece-of-shit that you always saw reading and smoking outside of Starbucks is well and alive; only big differences are that these days he wears uniforms, and is more reserved in public. Strange, isn’t it? Once stupidly social yet here I am yammering about some “quiet life” non-sense. Oh well. When old habits lose appeal, what can you do?
Since having not posted here for so long, I want to leave you with a useful parcel of knowledge that I’ve managed to scrape up from my experiences here: do NOT live by just getting by. “Barely passed my classes, fuck it” or “Just going to dick around at work because I can get away with it”. More specifically, this applies to those of you who want to be in a place of influence at some point or another, as it is especially you who does not have the option of sliding by. To be safe, make yourself believe that those self-glamorized “dream-jobs”, only pick up the top 1-5% of it’s applicants, because chances are that they actually do. Generalize the trend in your head; from universities, to career paths, it’s all the same when we’re looking at people who move up the ladder.
Anyway, hope this bares some semblance of inspiration. Read books, eat fiber, and hug your dog.
